Know Error system

In 2009, Strand Diagnostics developed the know error® system which uses bar coding, forensic principles and DNA matching to confirm that surgical biopsy samples being evaluated belong exclusively to the patient being diagnosed. The know error® system relies on DSPA testing to confirm a biopsy is correctly matched with the appropriate patient; it’s a blunder that occurs more often than any patient would like to believe.

Katherine Waddell Consulting was brought in to put a creative face on the Know Error brand. Working closely with Know Error’s marketing team, we were challenged to explain a scientifically complex process in a way that both physicians and their patients would understand. We were immersed in all aspects of brand building: from package design and co-branded materials to trade show displays and physician and patient brochures. In addition to providing Know Error’s sales force with a variety of marketing tools, we created materials to support Know Error’s philanthropy in a number of markets.

Hundreds of physicians in a variety of specialties, including urology, radiology, GI and oncology, have now adopted the know error® system as their standard of care for diagnosing patients with cancer.

Note: Late, late nights
working with Know Error’s marketing manager were the norm for this account. The company’s growth has been explosive, and just keeping up with the demand for new work was a challenge in itself.
