“It’s not just the things we do at the holidays. It’s the holiday things we do all year.”
Not many companies measure success by how much they can give away, but six years ago Toms brought a novel idea to the retail world. They started with giving away a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair they sold. Toms works with local organizations that have experience in the regions they serve. As a result, the “giving shoes” have variations for local needs, weather and topography all over the world. And last year, Toms expanded their efforts to eye wear to help visually impaired people. Toms has created a whole new tradition, and they continue to give on a daily basis: every time a child walks to school or every morning when a person opens his eyes.
You don’t have to make giving your business model, but you might consider how your company can make a difference in your community. Good food for thought this holiday season. I hope you have a joyful Thanksgiving.
