Pinterest Marketing Campaign Study: Guess

Pinterest is a relative newcomer to social media. But as traffic grows, more and more businesses want a piece of the action. Here’s how fashion brand Guess developed a promotion to encourage users to pin items from their website.

Guess posed a challenge to their fans to create Pinterest boards based on four four spring colors: “Noir Teal,” “Hot House Orange,” “Red Hot Overdue” and “New Plum Light.” The participants were asled to pin at least five images and title their boards “Guess My Color Inspiration”. With their play on words in the title, they’ve also put their brand name out to anyone who follows that Pinterest user.
Their social media team then enlisted the help of fashion bloggers Kristina Bazan of Kayture, Michelle Koesnadi of Glisters and Blisters, Jennifer Rand of Belle De Couture and Samantha Hutchinson of Could I Have That to judge the contest and select four winners. Having more than one winner inspired more fans to participate, yet the number was still small enough to feel exclusive.

By encouraging participants to pin images from their websites, Guess not only managed to bring brand awareness to Pinterest, but also drive traffic to their site, using a relatively simple plan.
